Waterfalls are another favorite of mine! Love trying to get that silky look in photos of the water rushing over the edge. Niagara Falls is certainly the grandest of all! Hard to get that silky look, yet doesn’t really matter, the magnitude of the volume of water rushing over and the currents created in the river below are a testament to the power of water.

Lindsey and Krista joined us for our three days of exploring the Falls and the area around. Got our passports stamped with Canada! The Falls are so much more visible and magnificent from the Canadian side. We took the Maid of the Mist boat ride to the base of the Falls, Lindsey and Krista did the Journey behind the Falls, and we all had a wonderful dinner in the revolving restaurant atop Skylon Tower and the colorful lighting of the Falls.

What fun to visit the vineyards!
We visited Two Sisters Vineyard, had a wonderful lunch. Then, scurried over to Peller Estates Winery for a little education on wine pairings with different cheeses. Dropped in at Inniskillin Winery to check out “Ice Wine”. Probably not a new phenomenon, just new to us, we tasted and liked. Ice Wine is curated by taking the grapes when frozen on the vine and therefore highly concentrated. The ice wine then is very full bodied and wonderful when icy cold. (It is also very expensive due to the nature of its creation and the volume of grapes needed to make a bottle of wine; so tasted good, just didn’t bring any home). Nonetheless, we did bring home other varieties!
Fort Niagara – Defender of the Great Lakes and westward access to the heartland
The history of Old Fort Niagara spans more than 300 years. During the colonial wars in North America, a fort at the mouth of the Niagara River was vital, for it controlled access to the Great Lakes and the westward route to the heartland of the continent. With the completion of the Erie Canal in 1825, however, the strategic value of Fort Niagara diminished. It nonetheless remained an active military post well into the 20th century. Rich history here and across the Niagara River, where Fort George was a Canadian military post that defended Upper Canada against American attacks.
Oh . . . and can’t forget about a couple more Lighthouses!!

We all had a wonderful time, sad to be dropping the Girls off at the airport for their trip home! Dad and I continue on, headed homeward.
